Why using external SSD with iPhone 15 Pro?

There is this thing I don't understand, when trying to film video in Log ProRes at 4k 60fps, on iPhone 15 Pro, why do you need an external SSD?

For instant if you have the 1TB iPhone15 Pro, do you still need an external SSD?

Is the writing speed on external SSD via USB-C faster then the speed of writing on the internal 1TB memory of the iPhone?

Where you get this from is not clear to me. Do you get any such warning on your iPhone?
