Problems with security with Norton 360 and Ventura 13.6.4 and problems with Ventura

We have had Norton for years and it has worked well. It will now not fix a security issue on our iMac. In addition, twice in the past month and a half our system has reverted to the original Ventura that came on the iMac last year and I have had to reinstall everything. Is it possible that these issues are connected?

Remove Norton.

Use the built-in anti-malware.

For some months, Norton has inexplicably been reporting problems about the macOS chronod process used for widgets, per Norton support postings.

Reverting to earlier macOS just doesn’t happen, absent restoring a backup, or booting from an older macOS storage device, or booting and reverting via Recovery. There’s no downgrade.

"Worked well," how? What could it have possibly blocked? All known malware is already blocked by macOS.

What "security issue" has it made up for you to feel good about it doing something?

In addition, twice in the past month and a half our system has reverted to the original Ventura that came on the iMac last year and I have had to reinstall everything.

macOS does not do that. It would take massive intervention by the user to remove and revert any previous macOS version.

In order to revert to a previous macOS version, you must startup in Internet Recovery or another startup source, erase the drive, then reinstall from an older macOS version installer. From internet recovery, it can install the original shipping macOS version if you erase the drive completely. It doesn't just magically install a previous version.

Is it possible that these issues are connected?

Yes, having Norton installed and having unexplainable problems with your Mac are quite common.

Possible? Likely.

Could it be that "Norton" is the virus it was allegedly designed to prevent...?

Rule 1 of Macs is don't install junk. When you discover how well your Mac works without it, you're going to regret having tolerated it for all these years.
