Cricket Phone & IPad

My friend has a Cricket phone but she seldom uses it. She uses her IPad to send IM's to people. Is it possible for the Cricket phone to be picking up the IM's she is sending? Cricket keeps charging her for calls she doesn't make on the Cricket phone (sort of like Air Drop?)

She can send iMessages directly from an iPad but if she sends SMS/MMS messages they can only be sent by a cellular phone. It is possible to set up an iPad so that it sends SMS/MMS message through an iPhone, so if her phone is an iPhone, what you describe is possible.
