Homekit: I am looking at extending homekit to be able to control a garage door. The garage is internal to the house so I am worried about security.

I am starting to use homekit for simple functions like thermostats and lights. Security for such functions is important but not really a big deal. But what about something like a garage door, especially when this gives you access to the reat of the house via an internal door? How secure is such a solution and is it worth the risk? Any additional risk would probably make this a non starter.

Thanks for any comments!

I use a HomeKit compatibile garage door opener, and will sometimes use the Siri command within my car to open the door as I near the house. In all instances when using it, Siri will respond that I need to unlock my phone before it can complete the command. I have verified that the only way to have Siri/Homekit open the door is if I first unlock my iPhone using Fingerprint ID.
