set up external ssd drive using disk utility to run apps

M1 mac mini. Moving apps from my 2014 mini to my Samsung external ssd, so those apps can run from the drive. What settings on Disk Utility for the ssd drive to run apps on M1?

Mac mini, macOS 14.3

Your Mac would like disks best when formatted as APFS or Mac OS Extended (HFS+).

- Use APSF if all your Macs that this drive may connect to are on macOS 10.13 or later.

- Use Mac OS Extended if you need compatibility with older Macs (macOS 10.12 or earlier).

- APFS is optimized for SSD drives.

- APFS can be faster for read/write operations.
