Here’s what Wells Fargo says about the safety and security of Apple Pay.
”The security of your account information is a top priority.
When you pay with Apple Pay and your Wells Fargo card:
- Your actual card number is replaced with a unique digital card number, which means businesses do not see or store your full card number.
- All Wells Fargo transactions are monitored by Wells Fargo’s 24/7 risk and fraud detection systems.
- Purchases made with your Wells Fargo card are protected by Zero Liability protection, so you won't be held responsible for promptly reported unauthorized transactions.”

Apple does not store the decrypted card information. In fact by Wells Fargo pushing the card to Apple Wallet, all Apple or your iPhone ever had was the encrypted data. Only your bank has the key to decrypt the data. So, hacking an iPhone would only yield encrypted data that’s useless. Apple only stores encrypted data on its systems and again, only Wells Fargo has the key.
