Can't find/add non Chinese travel pass - SUICA/OPAL?

Hi all,

We will be traveling to Japan later this year and I was setting up SUICA (Japanese travel pass) for my family on their iPhones. Its worked fine for everyone except my youngest two. When I try and add a transit card for them all I get are mainland Chinese options. I don't even get an option for my local one OPAL.

While on my phone I can add it and have a plethora of options for China, Japan, HK and the USA (no AU though which maybe normal):

Anyone know why this is? Is it an age thing? My daughters are 15 and 13. Thanks.

Suica is the prepaid IC card by JR East for JR trains in the Greater Tokyo, Niigata, and Sendai regions. A special version of Suica, called Welcome Suica, is available to foreign tourists. The special cards are valid for only four weeks, come without a deposit fee, but do not allow for refunds.

If you are wanting to add this card to Apple Pay / Wallet on your iPhone then that will depend on the Apple ID that you have logged in with.

For example, if you have Apple ID with India as a country then you will not be able to add the Suica Card to Apple Pay.

Instead you may try this:

  1. Download the Mobile Suica app: Visit the App Store and download the Mobile Suica app onto your device.
  2. Create a Mobile Suica account: Open the Mobile Suica app and create a new account by providing the required information, such as your name, email address, and payment details. You may need to register a credit card or use other payment methods to top up your Mobile Suica balance.
  3. Add funds to your Mobile Suica account: Once your account is set up, you can add funds to your Mobile Suica account using various payment methods available within the app.
  4. Use Mobile Suica for payments: With funds loaded onto your Mobile Suica account, you can use your smartphone to make payments at supported locations, including transportation gates, convenience stores, and other participating merchants.

This is not true for Australia at least. I have six iPhones 4 of which I can add SUICA cards to. All are Australian. Here is my SUICA for example:

I may contact apple support as it's inconsistent. I will check your app recommendation though, thanks.
