Can't connect to app store Macbook Pro late 2011 Lion OS

The computer can't login to my account in Itunes also. Safari states it can't open the page when attempting to get an update for itself, Safari, error -51.

When attempting to login to account from Itunes I can enter my user ID & password but the server won't connect. I have several Apple computers, iPad, iPhone, all can connect to App Store, or to the account in Music.

I used the computer to update firmware on a piece of hardware. To do so I had to update the OS on the laptop to install the firmware effectively. The hardware updated successfully but the laptop didn't run well.

I booted into recovery and the option to install Lion was available. Lion installed successfully without issue Several apps were then downloaded via Software Update.

Safari is useless as a browser because the pages don't load in a manner that allows reading. However,

Firefox Legacy does function well enough to do simple browsing functions.

Before the update to install firmware, the computer had several apps that were purchased at the App Store and music purchased from iTunes. Specifically an old version of Logic Pro is available for download. The version only runs on the older machine.

The computer still runs well. The CD drive was replaced by a SSD drive. Before the drive upgrade the machine would continually lock up and display the spinning cursor. The installation of the SSD drive eliminated the spinning cursor.

Thanks in advance

You will need to download the macOS 10.11 El Capitan installer from Apple using the instructions in this Apple article:

How to download and install macOS - Apple Support

You can use any computer or OS which can access the Internet to download the macOS 10.11 installer. Then you will need to transfer the downloaded 10.11 .dmg file to the 2011 Mac running Lion. Run the .pkg file to extract the real installer into the Applications folder, then launch the real installer (Install macOS El Capitan) now located in the Applications folder to upgrade the OS. After that you should be able to download the macOS 10.13 High Sierra installer.

FYI, did you try booting into Internet Recovery Mode using Command + Option + R to attempt to access the online High Sierra installer? Unfortunately some Macs will still only boot to the older macOS online installer regardless of the keys used.
