what is Apple, Inc? why is it taking up storage space and sharing data from multiple apps without authorization?

iPhone 11 | OS 17.3.1

can anyone explain the Apple Inc. taking up storage space? It’s not an app I have on home screen or in app library. I recently noticed it in my iPhone storage settings and, what I found most troubling is the mention of “documents and data shared and used by multiple apps”, along with apps listed that contain sensitive data (Photos, Files, Messages….).

this makes little sense to me given all my sharing settings are disabled, toggled off &/or restricted. no shared albums, folders, nothing. I don’t sync half the apps listed with iCloud either. it also seems as though I’m prohibited from deleting, offloading, or at the very least altering “Apple Inc.” settings.

is this normal?????

I, for one, am not interested in the function(s) of Apple Inc.

What I am interested in is the fact that it was added to my iPhone without my knowledge or consent. And so far, I have been unsuccessful in finding a way to delete Apple Inc. from my iPhone.

Have any of you been able in figure it out? If so, would you kindly share it with the rest of us who need to free up storage space on our iPhones.

Thank You 😊

Apple iPhones have two areas to store data, RAM (memory) and storage or SSD type space. RAM is volatile or is deleted when the phone is restarted. Storage has both permanent and volatile space. The volatile space is, like RAM, deleted when the iPhone is restarted.

In order to maximize the performance of your iPhone certain Apple apps will substitute storage for RAM. This increases performance for those apps and basic operations to perform at maximum speed.

The iPhone needs to use this space for certain apps that are suspended in the background. If you want to reduce the size of the storage space being used, then restart your iPhone. Just turn it off and back on.

In regard to the functions of Apple, Inc. they are essential to operation of your iPhone, iPad etc. Apple could hide the information, but they are disclosing the size in an effort to not be so mysterious about what programs are utilizing the storage space.

I have never seen this before.

When I asked Gemini this is what I got...

"

The "Apple Inc." entry you see in your iPhone storage isn't a single app, but rather a shared storage category. This means it holds data used by multiple Apple apps on your device.

Here's the breakdown:

  • Shared Storage: This category groups data used by several built-in Apple apps. This helps avoid duplicate storage and keeps things efficient.
  • Apple Inc.: This simply indicates the data belongs to Apple's system apps.

It's normal to see "Apple Inc." in your storage list. The size can vary depending on what data your apps use.
