Uninstalling malware from macOS

How do you uninstall malware from Mac operating system? Do I need third party antivirus software now that I do have malware in my Mac system -- which is up to date as far as OS updates released by Apple?

How do you know you have malware installed?

The operating system volume is read-only so no malware can get installed there. However, you can download and install the free Malwarebytes and when run, it will look for and remove known malware from other locations. You can then uninstall Malwarebytes from its help menu.

The principal vector for malware infections on your Mac is by downloading content from other than the original developer site. You specifically do not need any anti-virus application on your Mac as the operating system itself is already sufficiently protected by Apple security design. See macOS - Security - Apple.

Anti-virus vendors want to sell product and subscriptions, even where it is pointless, such as on your Mac, or despite the fact that it will send false positives and interfere with the normal operating system function. When Malwarebytes was first introduced, and for several years since, it was not advertised as an anti-virus app, but now it is, even though they have relented to the same motives as the anti-virus product vendors: user's fear and subscriptions.
