I type a little, like "Look at this" and then I copy a picture from Photos and Paste it in the Message, and then I continue with "wasn't that great?" or something like that.
You can try it with one of those stupid no-reply messages you get.

If you've already started the text message drag the photo to the Desktop from your Photos library and then drag it into the text message fields.
If you haven't started the message select the photo, go to the Share menu and select Messages:
Then fill out the addressee and message:
I'm sad, as well. This is the message I sent to CVS yesterday
Just as they promised, CVS has not responded.
I wonder what you might be doing differently. I really just did ⌘-c to get the picture, typed and then ⌘-v to paste it. This is on your Mac Pro 15", right? You're using Monterey? I'm in Ventura, but I'm pretty sure it was the same.
