deleting duplicates....why no info on where the photo is stored!

I need to delete duplicates and I show I have over a thousand in "duplicates" folder. I would like to see where each of the duplicates is. Is the duplicate in multiple albums? If so, which album? Is the duplicate perhaps in a shared family album and in "my favorites" album? I organize my albums in a way such that some photos are in more than one or two albums? When I click on "merge" in "duplicates", exactly what is happening?

For example, say I have two albums and one is named "DOG" and the other is named "CRAZY DOGS". I have the same photo in each album and that is what I want. When I merge the dog photo in the "duplicates folder"...does it still show up in "DOG" and "CRAZY DOGS" albums?

That's perfectly fine and it's not a duplicate. Albums simply contain links to the image in the library. So your dog photo can easily be in two albums and take up no extra disk space. A duplicate is when you have two copies of the dog photo in the library, which does waste space. So Photos eliminates one but in doing so preserves your albums, and the dog photo continues to be available in both albums.
