Are we supposed to take out the SIM card? Since the new phone had a digital one? Like for the trade in do we need to take it out before shipping it back to Apple?

Contact your carrier to activate the eSIM on the new phone. Your carrier will transfer your cellular service to the new iPhone by activating that eSIM.
