Unable to import music into iTunes from an external CD drive

I have an iMac 27" recently updated to MacOS 14.3.1. When I launched Music (iTunes) I got a pop up window stating something like 'do you want to allow an external device to access media' and clicked no thinking I could change this setting if need be. Now I can't play/import music into iTunes from my external Apple Superdrive and I get an Error code 'Error occurred while converting the file 'song name'. An unknown error occurred (-54) message. The message occurs immediately after hitting import CD no matter if you choose the entire CD or any subset of songs. I have tried multiple cd's and multiple drives with the same results. I even bought a new external drive and tried all of my USB ports. Each of the drives will work for other program. I can drag and drop the music files to tediously get the files into iTunes but I must rename and add all of the information for each song.

I believe that getting back to the access request and clicking yes would fix the problem. Does anyone know where that setting would live? Thank you .

Okay, I found a solution that worked for me.

  1. Head to the Apple menu > System Settings.
  2. Click Security & Privacy(for macOS Monterey and earlier) on the pane, or Privacy & Security(for macOS Ventura and later) on the left sidebar.
  3. Under the Privacy section, find and open Files and Folders.
  4. Locate the target app (Music) and click it to show the options.
  5. Tick Removable Volumes under the app to enable it to be accessed.
