Enabling Item Mode (Switch Control)

I am trying to enable “Item Mode” within the “Switch Control” settings on my iPad 9th gen, but the option isn’t showing up. It’s on the latest iOS and I’m using a Tapio interface. Is this not an option anymore? I’m able to use “Item Mode” on my iPhone SE 2nd gen. Any help is appreciated!

iPad, iPadOS 17

Am no expert in this area, yet your request surely deserves some response.

Wondering if Apple Support's online article (link below) may help:

Use Switch Control on iPad to select items, perform actions, and more - Apple Support

Eg. says:

"Use Switch Control on iPad to select items, perform actions, and more

After you set up and turn on Switch Control, you can select items on the screen by doing any of the following:

  • Item mode: The cursor sequentially highlights items or groups of items.

NB: This is the default method when you first turn on Switch Control and whenever the Scanner menu appears".

"When the cursor is on the item you want, the Scanner menu opens to show the available actions such as tap, scroll, control the volume, and more."

You may want to check whether you are simply already in item mode on iPad, without having to select it.

All the best :-)
