Unable to pair Apple Watch 5 with iPhone 15 pro

My apple watch 5 was previously paired with my iphone x which worked fine until i tried to update the watch to watchOS 10. Unfortunately, my iphone x was unable to be updated to iOS 17 as it was no longer supported, and a device running iOS 17 was necessary to update the watch which i didn't now have. I bit the bullet and bought an iphone 15 pro as i was due an upgrade but to my horror it won't update the watch. I've tried everything but nothing works. It pairs with it fine but then it gives the message SOFTWARE UPDATE A software update is available for this Apple Watch. Update now to continue setting up. Then i get watchOS 10.3.1 Apple Inc.

Estimated time remaining...

and at the bottom of the screen

Downloading to watch....

And that's it nothing changes, it just stays like that.

Any help would be a godsend

Thanks in anticipation.

Did you put the watch on its charger to continue the update?

You may have to reset the watch and start again,

Put Apple Watch on its charger.

Press and hold the side button until you see the screen with the power button in the upper-right corner, then let go of the side button. If your Apple Watch has an earlier version of watchOS, you see the Power Off slider instead of the power button.

Press and hold the Digital Crown until you see the red Reset button.

Tap Reset, then tap Reset again to confirm.

After Apple Watch unpairs completely, you can pair again. Remember that you'll need the Apple ID and password that were used to set up the watch. Set up as New Watch.

Once paired initiate the update from the iphone Watch app, Settings,General, software update

LD150, Thanks a lot for your time and effort. I had a couple of lengthy chats with Apple support but unfortunately nothing was working. One of the chaps a lovely guy called Sergio tried his best but to no avail. He was going to arrange an email meeting with me to sort it out. He needed time to work out a plan so suggested next Tuesday which I'm afraid is no use to me. I told him I needed it fixed now not next week and asked him if I went into the Apple store today, would they be able to fix it....in his opinion? He said they probably would, so I made an appointment for later in the day at the Genius Bar.

This was the outcome....

Apparently they don't have the tool necessary to reset the watch, so they'll send it away and assuming there's no water ingress, which there isn't, I should have it back and pairing in 7 to 10 days or thereabouts. They waived the charge of £309.00 for the repair (as if I was going to pay that) and I should hope so too as it's not my fault it wouldn't pair but I thank you again for your kind help and time trying to fix my headache. Hopefully alls well that ends well lol.
