iPhone lighting up when on call

Hi guys, just wondering if this is the same for everyone. I have just upgraded my iPhone 13 mini to an iPhone 15 (iOS 17.3.1). When I am on a call using the handset normally, the screen will be black (like it used to on my old iPhone) but it keeps lighting up when I get any kind of notification like WhatsApp or a message. The screen will then stay lit up until I move it away and then back to my face again. It never used to be like that on my old iPhone…it just stays black even though you can hear the tones going off. The lighting up is quite annoying…any ideas?

If the issue is specifically related to the screen lighting up when notifications are received during a call, and it's bothering you, you might want to check the following settings:

Make sure that Do Not Disturb mode is not enabled. When Do Not Disturb is active, it can suppress some notifications and prevent the screen from lighting up. You can check this by going to Settings > Do Not Disturb.

If the screen lights up excessively or remains lit even when you put the phone back to your ear, then it might be a different issue. In that case, consider:

  • Cleaning the Proximity Sensor: The sensor at the top of the iPhone near the receiver detects your face and turns off the screen. Ensure it's clean and not blocked by a case or screen protector.
  • Restarting the iPhone: Sometimes a simple restart can resolve minor glitches.

If none of these solutions work, then contacting Apple Support for further troubleshooting might be necessary.
