Is there a way to add the built-in timer to Mac menu bar?
Have the date/time in menu bar and would like to add the built-in timer, not a third-party app.
Can probably do with a shortcut, but was hoping for a direct way.

The short answer is no.
you could always add a word clock to your notifications centre.
and when you click on the clock widget, "timers" is an option that you are given.
You can also use Spotlight to launch apps quickly. Command-Space and start typing. If I type "timer," I get "Start Timer." Hit return, and it's right there in the middle of the screen.
In addition, you could add shortcuts to the menu bar and scroll to your timer shortcut. This would have it in the menu bar with your other shortcuts if you have any. Putting in dock lets it be there by itself.

Also, make sure the sound is on to a level you would like to hear, since if the sound is off the volume will not go up and it will be silent.
To avoid this, you could add an AppleScript for the volume level to the timer shortcut.

I'm sorry but I don't know. I never use the timer on my computer. I just tell Siri to set it on my Watch or iPhone. On those devices, I think it defaults to whatever you last used.
