Considering upgrading to a MacBook Pro M3. Would like recommendations

Electrical Engineering student

I currently have an MacBook Pro M1 Pro with 16gb of RAM and when running simulations it can be a little sluggish or lag. I'm thinking about upgrading to the M3 pro but not sure what configuration I should get. I would like something that will be full proof for the next 5 to 7 years and run any software I might need. any suggestions?

Thanks

For engineering applications, I'd recommend as much "horsepower" as you can afford. For sure, do NOT look at the standard M3 chip...instead, limit your configurations to the M3Pro or M3Max chips. I'd also recommend 32GB RAM, as engineering apps can be pretty RAM hungry at times. Storage...again, get as much as you can afford. As you no doubt know, neither the RAM or internal SSD storage can be upgraded after the fact.

Hi erikfromscappoose, so if you can afford M3 go for it. Go for a Pro or a Max, not the basic model. Make sure you get lot of ram, 32 or more. If you are on the budget, go for M2 Max MacBook Pro. it's still very good. I have been using my M1 Pro MacBook since it came out and I can't say anything bad about it. Macs are great ant they will last you very long. For SSD go for about 4TB or if you want save some money, just buy external SSD. So if I was buying MacBook, I will go for: 16 inch M3 max 64 GB RAM 4TB SSD.

Hope this helps, have a nice day!
