Can't delete 'phantom' Events

Okay, weird one.

I have a few events that are no longer needed. I deleted the files from the library directly (my bad)

and this has left me with 'phantom' events.

Basically FCP thinks there's an event there but it has no associated files so on start-up it says something like 'Library corrupted, files missing'.

I have tried to delete the Events but it seems to be a catch-22... without any content they can't be deleted but because they are there as Events without content they are seen as corrupted.

I tried directly deleting. Nothing. I tried the File> Move event to trash route but the option to do so is greyed out.

Any suggestions?

It is not a good idea to make changes to the library bundle in Finder, except in very special circumstances and being sure we know what we’re doing.

Always move, copy or delete events in FCP.

At this point, I would try this: make a new library. Copy the events you want to keep from the old to the new. Close the old library. Test to make sure everything is working. If you are sure all is there, trash the old one.
