Not the Finder Window...the Menu drop down.
To open a recent item....
Reopen an app or file: • Choose Apple menu > Recent Items, then choose the item from the Applications or Documents section

Per the Apple guide:

What’s in the Apple menu on Mac?
The Apple menu

There is no "Recent Items" below "App Store".

And...since you mentioned the Finder window....I have a list that goes back to 2018! How the heck do I clear that without deleting the linked file or item?

I just always called the ...

I have never used that choice for a recent item there...but I do see Applications, Documents, Servers and a clear menu option...

Not sure what to say there— you can try a Safeboot to sort anomalies—

As for as your Finder "Recents" There is no user option for clearing that very long list...mine goes back to 2017. I don't use that menu either but very rarely.
