Letters or characters repeat unexpectedly In my Macbook air (13-inch, 2017 model)

  • Space bar and ‘K’ keys are repeat unexpectedly even when the keys are not disturbed. This is causing a lot of problem while typing something and watching anything.
  • I noticed the keyboard service program for the same issue for different models. Kindly add 13-inch 2017 model as well to the list. Or atleast let us know the possible root causes of this problem.

The free keyboard repair program is for all 2016 - 2018 models as well as 2019 models that were released by mid-2019. However, the free repair program only applies for up to four years after you purchased the laptop from Apple...which for a 2017 model, means the program is no longer valid for you.

You can try cleaning the keyboard using the instructions in this Apple article, just make sure to keep the can of compressed air completely upright or you may damage the laptop with the cold wet propellant.

How to clean the keyboard of your MacBook or MacBook Pro - Apple Support

Check the Battery condition. If it shows "Service Recommended", then you can have Apple replace the battery ($250 US according to the Apple website). The battery is glued to the underside of the Palmrest & Trackpad so Apple replaces the entire Top Case Assembly which also includes the Keyboard. If the Battery is showing "Service Recommended", then I would avoid mentioning any key issues in case the tech decides to charge for a Keyboard replacement instead which is a lot more expensive.
