I have an external mic that I'd like to use with my iPhone 13. The mic has a 3.5mm stereo jack for output. Will an adapter that accepts the 3.5mm jack on one end with a lightning jack on the other allow me to feed the mic output to the iPhone's recording function (say with video capture)?

The Apple 3.5mm audio TRRS uses the connection tip for right, the first ring for left, the second ring for common, and the sleeve for the microphone. Check your wiring on your 3.5mm connection, and whether you need an adapter to reorder your microphone’s version of TRRS into the Apple version of TRRS.
