Synced media is taking up a third of my storage and I would like to know how to properly manage/reduce the size of these files

"Synced media" typically refers to media files that are synchronized or transferred to your iPhone from your computer or another device through a syncing process. This could include photos, videos, music, or other media files that you have intentionally transferred to your iPhone from another source.

If you're seeing a significant portion of your storage being occupied by synced media that is not visible in your iPhone storage settings, there are a few potential explanations:

  1. iTunes Synced Media: If you have used iTunes on your computer to sync media to your iPhone, these files might not be directly visible in your iPhone storage settings. You would typically manage these files through iTunes on your computer.
  2. iCloud Photos: If you use iCloud Photos, your media might be stored in the cloud, and only a portion of it may be downloaded to your device. In this case, your iPhone storage settings might not accurately reflect the total size of your photo and video library.
  3. Media from Third-Party Apps: Some third-party apps, especially those related to music or video streaming, might store synced media in their own folders or caches. These files might not be directly visible in your iPhone storage settings.

The Reality of Synced Media Storage:

There are two main possibilities:

  1. Reference Only: In most cases, "Synced Media" likely acts as a reference point. It tells your iPhone which media on your computer it can access if needed. The actual files themselves might not be stored on the device.
  2. Partially Downloaded: Sometimes, synced media might be partially downloaded to your iPhone for offline access. This would take up storage space, but it wouldn't be a duplicate of the original file.
