Installed Ventura on external drive, now it has become the Startup drive instead of my internal HDD. What happened despite choosing External drive to install Ventura (for use on other MacBook)

External drive boots Monterey as an installer, but not as a "regular" startup disc I have external USB 2TB magnetic drive that boots my 2015 Intel Mac fine as an installer (with Option key, GUID partition map, Monterey 12.7.5), but I'd like to boot from it as a regular, everyday Mac. It is not seen as a possible startup disk. I have an M2 at my disposal, but it is going in the shop. I want to use this external as "personal Mac" while my M2 is away and I don't want to mess with the log-in IDs that are working perfectly well when booting from the internal SSD. I suppose I can easily make a new log-in, but I'd like to know what I need to do to make this drive act as a typical boot disk. Thanks.

Use External Hard Drive as Startup disk for 2017 21.5 iMac ? It's recommended that Monterey is the best suited for My late 2017 Retina 4K 21.5 iMac, as later macOS operating systems run slower on my particular iMac. My iMac is already running slow and get's hung up in unbearable ways, so I'm not in hurry to update. Anyway - I read that perhaps using an external startup disk could really speed things up... Any advice on this, besides a new computer ? Cheers

No Option to allow booting from external drive. Macbook Air M2, 2022 I have tried just about everything. But in the picture below, the bottom of half of it that gives the option to allow booting from an external drive doesn't even exist. It just isn't there at all. And as far as the Startup Security Utility options goes, I only get to choose from "full security" or reduced security. So I have found nothing that addresses this issue. Please help. Thanks in advance.

You can specify which drive you wan to be your strap drive by opening System Settings and then clicking on General in the left window. Next, you will see a window with Startup Disk at the bottom. Click on that link and select the disk you want.
