Trying to sync iPhone with iTunes on Windows laptop

Both the iPhone (14 Pro) and the Laptop (Windows 11) are using the latest versions of their respective software packages, but iTunes does not recognise my phone (no phone icon appears). The USB / Lightening data cable has been checked, and is fine.

I've spend hours (literally) on live chat, only to be told that they don't known what the "unknown error" code refers to, so they can't do any more to help. I cant seem to get an appointment at an Apple Shop, as the AI tells me I need to use Apple Support.

I'm not great with tech, and totally stuck with this, can someone help, please?

Windows, Windows 10

Absolutely agree - you would think Apple will progress after having had Itunes for so long - yet I deleted my Apple Music app after a lot of frustration - I think the user interface for music on Itunes is also better - I'm now having problems trying to sync my music between Iphone and ITunes on Windows ? - ITunes does not see the device - very frustrating... Apple devices App is ok for backup - but how do I sync music on ITunes ?

Try iOS device not showing in iTunes for Windows - Apple Community.

Thanks for your reply.

I opened the Device Manager, and under "Universal Serial Bus Devices" I have two further menu options; "Apple Mobile Device USB Composite Device" and "Apple Mobile Device USB Device".

Clicking on either of these gives me a pop up which includes the option to update the driver - in both cases, when I click on that, it says I already have the most up to date version of the driver installed.

This was where I (eventually) got to with Apple Support the last time, and was told I would need to get an appointment with an Apple Genius Bar, though trying to do that just puts me into a loop saying I need to go to Apple Support.

Looks like I may need to go into the shop, to try to make an appointment to go back to the shop another day.

Thanks for taking the time to try to help though, it's much appreciated.

Thanks again for trying to help, but I'm getting nowhere.

I've done as you suggested, but seem to have gone backwards - now when I open iTunes on my laptop it contains no music at all. I need to open Apple Music (I am not subscribed to it) to be able to see my music.

There seems to be no way to sync Apple Music on my iPhone, with Apple Music on my laptop.

I'm waaaay out my depth here, I've no idea what I'm doing, what I should be doing, or how to get this sorted. I really do appreciate your attempt to help me, but I don't think I've any choice but to go in to the Apple store, and try to make an appointment face to face, to go back in another time to see someone at the Genius Bar.

Thanks once again.

Ah, it seems you may have installed the new Apple Music for Windows app. This cripples your iTunes installation. In principle you can get another app called Apple Device to enable syncing, but Apple Music (the app) doesn't automatically inherit your old library, ratings, playlists, etc. unless you also have Apple Music (the subscription). My advice is to uninstall any and all of Apple Music for Windows, Apple TV for Windows, and Apple Devices for Windows, at which point your old iTunes library should be able to display all of its contents again, not just audiobooks and podcasts.
