iMac 2019 3.7GHz new RAM, crashes in sleep

I have been having this issue ever since I installed new RAM (2x 16GB Crucial) to my 2019 iMac (3.7 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i5, running Ventura 13.6.4). It starts fine and generally runs ok during the day. I put it to sleep in the evening and by the morning it won't start. I have to long press the power button to power down and then hit it again to restart. It restarts without issue. The overnight crashes do not happen with the original 2x16GB Crucial Ram installed alone. Any ideas?

Those settings are from Sonoma latest. Your settings are good. I’d reduce the inactivity timer from one hour to 10 minutes and avoid manual sleep entirely - gets you nothing, and by your own (recent) experience, only trouble.

Use shut for overnights and long absences and simply walk away for normal use, will fix.

Performance isn’t hindered by the settings - your Mac is crashing because you are subjecting it to something that’s unnecessary i.e. faulty operation. Leave it on overnight by all means, no problem. Or Shut. Just don’t manual sleep - it’s inviting trouble and gets you nothing but.

Thank you hcsitas. These settings appear to be for an older OS. 'Prevent auto sleep' isn't an option anymore in Ventura. Nor is 'turn off display when inactive' in lock screen.

Also I was having no issue (with manual sleep, and haven't done for 20+ years) before putting the new RAM in the Mac, and so I believe that is the issue, not the sleep options.

Yes I can shut down overnight, but my point is I shouldn’t have to. There is a reason it is crashing in sleep since I upgraded the RAM, I want to know why it is happening. The Mac shouldn’t be falling over after installing RAM, it’s meant to improve performance not hinder it. I want to know why it’s happening.

Sleep is unnecessary and should be disabled. Shut for long absences/idle overnights (i.e. do not manual-sleep) and for regular operation, use the settings exactly as shown below, should fix.
