Magic Keyboard Pass-through Charging

I just got the Magic Keyboard for my 11in. iPad Pro. Everywhere online says that it'll charge the iPad, but when I plug it in, it doesn't charge. The battery-bolt icon comes up but even while my iPad is covered by the keyboard cover, it never charges; the percentage will still drop as if it isn't on a charger. Besides having my charger plugged into an outlet of some sort, how can it charge?

iPad Pro, iPadOS 17

To charge your iPad via the spine USB-C connection of your iPad Magic Keyboard, you must connect a USB-C Power Adapter that supports USB PD (Power Delivery) - rated at least 20W.

While the Power Adapter supplied with your iPad should be adequate, be aware that not all third-party Power Adapters support USB PD.
