iPad 1st Gen is Activation Locked. How to remove this?

I have one of the 1st iPads and want to give it to my mother. I can't remember the ID and password that I used to set up the iPad. It is telling me there ins an activation lock.

A first generation iPad was released in 2010, and would be all but useless today as it can no longer run any apps nor access the App Store. I seriously doubt you have one of those.
