Still having this Problem? Missing apps in share sheet ios 14, or ios 13, 12, Etc?

I had this problem yesterday. The conversation was closed

and I thought it was not really solved in some cases that I could see

So I decided to "re-ask" the question and provide my solution.

I wanted to share a file to an App. In my case a .txt file to teleprompter App.

I spent a lot of time trying to

1) Share the file with (send to) the App.

2) Turning the Siri to Suggest App toggle off and on

3) Restarting my phone

4) trying to import my file from within the app.

I figured out the problem was that app was not accepting

my file in its native .txt format.

So using Macbook, I:

1) Opened File

2) Exported as a pdf file

3) I emailed it to my Email

4) Went to my phone, went to Email,

tapped file, the file opened and I shared

it to my App (Teleprompter)

So the problem in some cases may have nothing to do

with the share sheet. It could be compatibility problem

between the app and what you are trying to share.

Others seem to have a problem sharing pictures to Pinterest

or other apps, Twitter / X was mentioned. Not sure about that. However.................

Maybe try converting the .jpg or image picture to another format,

like PDF or other file format and see if the App you are sending

to accepts it.

Possibly the file size is too big? Maybe try using Squoosh and compressing it.

Sometimes image file sizes are HUGE and that could be an issue.

Good Luck!

Part of the iOS security framework is that an app can only open an object that the app has in its defined supported file types. Actually, this goes back to the original Mac operating system, although there were workarounds using 3rd part apps such as “can opener” in early Mac days. But note that the file type is not determined by the extension ala Windows; instead the file's metadata defines the file type.

For sharing pictures, the default file type for photos in iOS is HEIC. Does Pinterest support HEIC?

Thanks, Lawrence.

So then specifically and solely between any app and a file, if the object's file type is not within the apps supported file type,

It seems the app cannot / won't / "refuses" :) to appear in the share sheet when one

opens a file type and wants to share it with a given app. As you say, the Metadata that defines

the file type isn't compatible.

I do not know if Pinterest supports HEIC. When I run into compatibility

Problems of this nature, converting the file type is usually something I

think of quickly. Not in this case as I fiddled with other things.

Thanks,
