Apple TV update was just applied today 3/12/24. Ever since the screen on my 2 year old Sony Bravia will not stay lit. I have called Sony support and they had me reload my TV to factory. This made no difference at all. Apple Support thinks it is still the TV. Too much of a coincidence that the problem starts the same day as the update applied.
I’ve had trouble with Sony Bravia tv not seeing input on hdmi ports, I have found removing hdmi port on TV side and plugging back has resolved my issue a couple of times.
I will see if I have another HDMI cable. And/or I will reverse the one that is plugged in there and see what happens. I think you and hcsitas may be on to something. My inclination was that the TV wasn’t seeing any input and shutting off after its timeout.

Cycle through the different ports on the Sony & check if firmware is up to date. And/or r place the cable with new.
I bought a new HDMI 2.1 cable today and have it running between my Apple TV and the e/arc HDMI port and it MAY have fixed the problem. I also reset my Apple TV yesterday before replacing the cable.
How long is the HDMI cable?
Coincidences really do happen. There's pretty much nothing your Apple TV could have done to cause this. And, if both Sony and Apple think it's the television, I'd be inclined to believe them.

Firmware on TV is up to date. I replaced with a known good one but it wasn’t new.
