Using car play without toyota intelligent assistance

My 2024 Prius has built-in apple car play. I use an iphone 15 in the car. The new Prius's multimedia Owner's manual says "Toyota's Intelligent Assistant is a subscription-based service.....Without the subscription, the assistant will only support voice commands for radio and phone". This implies that navigation is excluded. It also says when using apple maps on the multimedia display, hitting the mic icon for search activates The Intelligent Assistance !! After one free year with the new car, I will have to pay $15 a month for this subscription. Here's the question: With apple maps on the car screen, and I click the mic icon to SPEAK a destination, will this work WITHOUT the intelligent assistance ? i.e. do I need to pay $15 a month to tell my car play where I want to go ? The manual implies this. Does it mean I have to tell my PHONE where to go and then it works on the car map ? Or can't I tell the CAR where I want to go without this subscription. I cannot seem to turn the subscription off to see if the car's microphone will work with car play without the subscription fee.
