Unable to update iPhone 8 before setting up new iPhone 15.

My device (iPhone 8) doesn't support ios 17, only 16.7.6. Instructions say, "If your device is compatible, then update to the latest version of iOS or iPadOS that is available to you. Should this read "incompatible?"

iPhone 4s, iOS 9

There is no issue with using Quick Start to transfer the data on an iPhone running a lower version iOS than the new iPhone is running. The issue would be if you attempted to move the data from an iPhone to an iPhone which is lower than the version running on the phone you want to move the data from.

So, you don't have to update your iPhone 8.

Quick Start is really pretty cool if you haven't used it before. See how here --> Use Quick Start to transfer data to a new iPhone or iPad - Apple Support
