iPhone 7 Plus Battery Issues: Seeking Community Help

I hope this message finds you well. I am reaching out to seek advice and guidance regarding persistent battery issues with my iPhone 7 Plus. Despite trying various troubleshooting steps, the problems persist, and I would greatly appreciate any insights or suggestions from the community.


Issue Summary:


1. The battery health has decreased from 80% to 76%.

2. The iPhone requires frequent charging (3-4 times a day).

3. Some chargers work intermittently, and even the working ones stop functioning after some time.

4. The device experiences heat, especially in portrait mode.


Steps Taken So Far:


- Checked different chargers and cables.

- Cleaned the charging port for debris.

- Performed a force restart.

- Updated to the latest iOS version.

- Reset all settings.

The battery health has decreased from 80% to 76%.


Apple specifically states that the battery needs to be replaced when battery health is down to 80%. Users often change the battery before it gets to 80% because of decreased performance.


Make an appointment at the Apple Store or take the phone to an authorized Apple service shop. Battery replacement is about $69 (U.S.)


You can find a list of authorized shops in your area using this link: Find Locations


The iPhone 7 was introduced in September 2016 and discontinued in September 2019. So, your phone is probably 5+ years old and likely quite a bit older. It cannot run the newer iOS 16 and iOS 17 software, so you are likely going to run into some situations where the apps that you want to run require a higher system than iOS 15 in the next few years.


No rush, but it might be time to start thinking about a newer phone.

Given that the device is over 5 years old and may face limitations with newer software updates, I understand the suggestion to consider a newer phone. However, with the current issue preventing the phone from turning on even after a battery replacement, I'm now exploring options for repair or further diagnostics.

If the battery had been replaced by Apple or an authorized service provider, they would have given you a diagnosis at the time of replacement if the problem was something else.


We can only assume, therefore, that you either replaced the battery yourself or had it replaced by an unauthorized service provider, which means Apple will no longer touch that device as it's been tampered with and unapproved parts have been installed.


Either find a competent 3rd party repair shop or go buy a new phone. We can't help you.

Are you saying that the phone would not turn on when you posted your original questions? If that is the case, you never mentioned that fact.


Our advice would have been completely different in that case.


If you took the phone to an authorized Apple service shop, there is no way that they would return the phone to you in a "not working" state.


We need additional details from you. Where did you take the phone for the battery replacement? Did the shop appear in the list of authorized service shops in your area?
