Is it possible to add a cd/rom player to my imac desktop computer. It does not have a cd slot.

Just about any Intel-based or Apple-Silicon-based Mac with a USB port (USB-A or USB-C; USB 2 speed, or better) can take an external optical drive.
If you have a very old PowerPC-based iMac whose USB ports only run at USB 1 speed, you may be out of luck … nobody makes external FIreWire optical drives any more.
