Hi, I have an apple watch series 8. I can change the notification sound for iMessage and disable vibration. But for third party apps like Signal or Whatsapp the default alert on the watch is vibration. Despite changing the notification sound on these apps and enabling mirror iPhone alerts, I can't seem to set a notification tone.

Do you have the Watch on mute? Assuming you're running watchOS 10, tap the side button (the flat oval button below the Digital Crown) to bring up the Control Center and, if there is a red bell icon with a slash through it, tap that.

Hello, I can confirm that my Apple Watch has a notification sound when I receive a WhatsApp message. That sound is different (deep “boing”) from the notification sound from the Messages app (sharp ding.)
That WhatsApp sound is not customizable on the Apple Watch and is different to the sound set in the WhatsApp app on the iPhone (sharp ding, i.e. the “Note” sound.)
I just wanted to give you these informations. I’m not sure what the issue could be. I’d suggest uninstalling and reinstalling WhatsApp but I’m not really sure this would help.
Sorry, I didn’t have to do anything; the Apple Watch emitted the (WhatsApp) sound from the get go without my setting anything.
If you decide to uninstall and reinstall WhatsApp, make sure to back it up first.
One silly question: the sound is not muted (or very low) on the watch?
Hi, thank you for your reply. Any tone I set on the app, my phone will play that tone when unlocked. When it comes through my watch it is always a vibration. I don't want to disable vibrations on the watch completely. I just want the message notifications to play notification sound as opposed to the vibration. Could you let me know how you managed to set the sound or any steps you followed will be super useful.
How are you changing the sound of the notification for Messages? As far as I know, the watch only has one notification sound.
iMessage has a default sound. But there is an option to disable the vibration and just have the sound ring specifically for this app on the watch. I am not able to do the same for Whatsapp.
I tried reinstalling, it didn't work. I have the same issue for Signal messenger and gmail. All third party apps have this problem. Have you disabled haptics on your watch? I have it enabled.
This is the case since I originally set up the watch. I don't know if resetting it would help. I just wanted to see if anyone else is getting the alerts without haptics before I reset
