Imported contacts not showing up in Mac mini post Monterey update

I've updated a Mac Mini (late 2014) from Sierra to Monterey, and installed an SSD (new install).

I exported the Contacts (Contacts app) from Sierra into a .abbu file on a USB drive. The file size for the .abbu file is about 6.7meg. However, when I try to Import the .abbu file into the Contacts on the Monterey (SSD) none of the contacts actually show up. "All Contacts" are basically empty with the exception of the email address for the owner.

Is there something that I'm doing wrong?

Yes, that's what I finally did. I reloaded the original HD into the system (second time now) and selected all of the Contacts, exported as a VCARD file and I was able to install all of the Contacts in the Monterey install on the SSD.

I could never find a way to get the abbu file structure to restore.

Sorry to hear that. You might try setting up a new user account temporarily and import the .abbu file into Contacts in that account. (Also reboot afterwards). At the very least it would confirm whether or not the problem lies in your user account. If it works, I'd export another .abbu from the Monterey Contacts and copy that over to your normal user account.

By any chance did you export all the v-cards from Contacs on Sierra? You could import them instead of the .abbu.

Not that recommend deleting it, but I think you may have ben looking in the wrong Lirary folder...

~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/

~ tilde indicates  your user library folder

Apple hid the Users' Library folders...

Method 1:

  1. From the Finder, select the Go menu at top of the screen, and choose Go to Folder.
  2. In the window that opens, enter ~/Library, and click Go.

Or…

Use the Command-Shift-. toggle in Finder to show or to hide hidden files and folders

I finally gave up.

I've been searching for a solution, one of which talks about deleting the existing Contacts Data file in the /library/Application Support/AddressBook, but that doesn't exist, I can't find the file.

I've tried everything that I can find, but nothing works (Created a new user, tried to import & reboot, etc. This is frustrating.

I finally found a backup (.vcf) of a backup from late 2022, so I loaded that. It will have to do for now.
