How to fix keyboard backlight issues after logging In

MacBook Pro 15 2018

The keyboard backlight stopped working after the last software update. The keyboard backlight comes up on the login screen but turns off after login credentials are entered.

Increasing the brightness automatically returns the setting to 0. Using the buttons on the touch bar does nothing.

Tried restarting the computer, then reinstalling Sonoma, still no backlight.

A SafeBoot Use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support will sort many anomalies

Does a quick disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, third party system modifications and system accelerations are disabled.

Login and test. Reboot as normal and test. Caches get rebuilt automatically.
