Updating Epson printer software

There is an Epson Software Updater icon on my screen that jumps up and down for me to open it. I am by no means a computer expert so I ignore anything like this. However I use my Epson printer for sublimation printing for crafting purposes. If the printer is working okay for my needs, is it necessary to open this updater (I am leery about opening anything on my computer and always verify authenticity). Can someone from the Apple community please advise?

I agree with @BDAqua. It's not necessary to update your Epson software just because the Updater app says an update is available.

I have Epson scanners & printers and often get this Updater showing up. I just close it. Everything is working fine on my system and I have no need to update any of it. Someday I will, but it will be when I decide it's the right time!
