instructions from apple in 2020 say go to Settings > Facetime but that is no longer valid. iphone 12 pro, ipad 12 pro, iphone 11 something or other (a friend with that phone is doing the original ask, but I'd like to turn it off, also)

Thank you for the rapid response. Please direct me where; e.g. the Settings options above and below where it sits on your phone. I have screen shots waiting of my Settings and fail to see it anywhere--maybe I'm missing it due to ADHD or dementia, or maybe it resides in (now-suspect) dark matter you have some way of detecting I do not. Thx!

what mode phone do you have and where are you located?
yes. from apple. yes, I can, but do not want to, and do not want to accidentally brush the camera icon when texting. it is more an issue for my friend, who has huge clumsy [which spellcheck just tried to "correct" to "clumpy"!] fingers.
I don't use restrictions. I don't give a darn if I spend all day and half the night on my devices when I'm not busy or when I'm ill. But what would that have to do with whether the facetime option even shows up as a menu choice? I would think nothing.
I ask again: Where does facetime show up on your phone? in between which two other menu choices? (ie. under which choice and above which choice?)

The issue is with your friend's device and not yours?
you would see it between message and safari.
If this is your friends phone or your go to the apple store.
I refer you to my problem as originally reported, which answers your question and corrects your misunderstanding.
Just so you know, not everyone - lives near an apple store. - has transportation to an apple store - is able-bodied or healthy enough to traipse off to the apple store when there is a minor issue. I am fortunate in that I could go to the store, but that is crazy to have to do, imo, for this question.
