Yes, thank you. I have also discovered another way: With the screenshot open, using the Preview menu, File, Share, Add to Photos - puts it straight into My Photos. This also works with photos on a CD, which is what I was trying to do (you don’t even have to save them as screenshots first).

If I do a command-shift-3 screenshot on my Mac, it is saved to the Desktop with a name like
"Screenshot 2024-03-16 at 10.49.29 AM.png"
If I drag that to the Photos icon, then it shows in the Recents album in Photos. This is a copy, so I can delete the file on the Desktop and it remains in Photos.
Is this what you were asking?
As Richard pointed out screenshots have to be saved to the drive before importing into the Photos library. There is not option to save it directly to Photos:
