Apple Mail Remind Me: Reminders Can't Be Deleted

Hi there, I'm using Sonoma 14.4 and the Apple Mail desktop app. For the past few weeks, I've been running into an odd issue that I can't seem to resolve.

Earlier last year, I marked multiple emails as "remind me" to pop back into my inbox later. As expected, when these dates arrived, these emails would pop up in my inbox with the remind me label for review (very helpful).

After reviewing these emails, I removed their reminder status by clicking on email, then clicking the reminder banner's edit button, then clicking "Remove Reminder".

Here is where the problem lies: even if I explicitly click "Remove Reminder" on these reminders, they NEVER EVER GO AWAY. The emails simply pop back up instantly into the bottom of my inbox and retain the reminder status despite my best efforts.

I've tried a number of things to fix this:

  • Restarting Apple Mail
  • Rebooting
  • Deleting emails with reminder status (they still come back)
  • Etc.

I'm at a loss on what I can do here and it's becoming a huge annoyance as my inbox is filled up with "remind me" emails that are all from last year and can't go away.

For what it's worth, I'm seeing this behavior both on a work Gmail account synced with Apple Mail as well as my personal iCloud paid account/email.

I think I found something that works. Instead of selecting the edit reminder or whatever button it is at the top of the email message, right click (or two finger tap on the touch pad) on the email message. On the pop up menu items, select the REMIND ME and then select CLEAR REMINDER

i did it this morning and haven’t see it since.

Thank you! This seems to work for me!

Just a quick note for anyone else who runs into this issue: after right-clicking and clearing the reminder, the email will NOT disappear from your inbox and go into the archive. For some reason, this doesn't happen until a random point in time later (maybe it has something to do with the Apple Mail cache?).

In my case it took a few hours before the email finally "disappeared" from my inbox and the reminder was cleared.
