How to remove activation lock from my iPhone?

Greetings, I’ve sold a phone, got an email that your Apple ID and password will no longer be required for someone to erase, reactivate and use your iPhone. And the buyer said that it’s ok activation lock still. How can I remove it please?

I don't know where that email came from, but it's wrong. Completely, utterly, wrong.

At minimum, you need to go into your Apple ID and remove the device from your account.

If you didn't follow this procedure, your phone was not ready to sell. Go down to the heading…

If you no longer have your iPhone or iPad

…and proceed from there.
