I just got a brand new Macbook Pro 2020 model (not from Apple directly but from an Air Force base retail store) and it says that the battery is not charging and shows a service recommended warning. Please help, thank you!
The battery is bad and needs to be replaced. More than likely this laptop has been sitting on the shelf for a long time and the battery drained to 0%. Leaving a Lithium battery completely drained for any length of time will permanently damage a Lithium battery.
I highly recommend you return it for a full refund, or at least have them reimburse you for the Apple battery repair. The Apple battery repair costs can be found in this Apple article (most likely about $250 US):
