iPhone dropping calls when merging

Hello, this is an issue I've experienced off and on over the past year and a half (I have an iPhone 14 Pro running iOS 17.4). Often, when I am on a call with someone and try to add another party on the call via the Merge function, my iPhone will drop the call with one or both of the parties when I try to connect them.

This seems to be a problem that has been occurring for years, and seems to affect people with every major carrier, from AT&T, to Verizon, to T Mobile, as evidenced by previous support threads here:

This has happened to me while on and off Wi-Fi, with all kinds of different people, and in multiple different areas with good cell coverage. I can only conclude that this is an issue with Apple's Phone app.

Is this something Apple is planning to address? It's making me seriously consider switching away from iPhone because I do this so frequently for my job.
