How to recover text messages on iPhone 6s

I have an iPhone 6s and yesterday years and years worth of text messages - all of them - suddenly disappeared from my phone. I have not been able to recover them. I've tried all the fixes online and was on the phone with apple support for hours. The only option that was ultimately offered was to restore my phone in the hopes that messages were grabbed at some point which I'm not too hopeful about. They don't appear in my iCloud account. I'm desperate. Does anyone anywhere have a fix or suggestion? Some of them hold a lot of sentimental value.

If you used iCloud for your text messages and those text messages are no longer on iCloud, then you may have permanently lost them. I am sure that you have tried logging out and back in to your iCloud (Apple ID) account. If you restore your iPhone to factory settings, then you will need an iCloud or a computer backup file to restore from. You may have an iCloud backup, but you have stated that the text messages do not appear to be there and therefore does not make sense to restore the iPhone.

My response above is based on the assumption that you have tried all of the fixes online and including Apple Support.
