My iPhone 8 stopped making or receiving calls

I’m now having to use my wife’s old iPhone 8?only because it can make calls & receive them. My iPhone 12 have to use for my work related apps & emailing. I’d llove to carry just one phone around with me and not 2 ! Any suggestions on how to fix this issue would be greatly appreciated!
