How to update payment method on App Store?
I took a free YouTube premium for a month, after which I no longer download anything from the appstore, it asks to update the payment method, no payment method is added, please help

Seems a free trial needs to be cancelled at least 24 hours before it expires if you do not want to be charged for the next month. Also, the free trial stops the moment you cancel.

Your Apple ID is the account you use to access Apple services like the App Store, Apple Music, iCloud, iMessage, FaceTime, and more. It includes the email address and password you use to sign in as well as the contact, payment, and security details you use across Apple services.
Seems Apple requires a payment method is listed in your Apple account for the first time you use the App Store or iTunes, (even if you only download free apps) OR ... if you have active subscriptions.
