Are any external devices connected? Especially an external display? Try disconnecting all external devices in case one of them is causing a problem.
Does this happen every time you shut down the laptop? If so, then try booting into Safe Mode and see if shutting down the laptop from Safe Mode has the same issue. If there is no issue from Safe Mode, then it most likely means you have some third party software installed which is causing the problem.
Do you have an external display? If so, then connect it an enable display mirroring. Do you see the same pink flashes on the external display when shutting down the laptop? Make sure to have both displays in your view to make sure the built-in display is actually still doing the pink flashes when the external display is connected.

My new MacBook Air works just fine.
What is the exact process you use to turn the machine off? (I tap the Apple logo in the Menu Bar followed by "Shut Down ...".)
