Why and what goes the user gain
The Console Application is not a place to be looking to make more space on the computer
System Log files are always being generated and all the time.
They do not use that much space .
VM Files and in Third Party Software like Parallels or similar Virtual Machine Files ?
System Cache files ?
Restart in Safe Mode. This will perform a Disk Repair, clear cache files and only load Apple Software, extensions and fonts. The boot up will be slow and can take some time - Normal.
The System Cache files will be recreated when the Operating System needs them again.

What is the bigger issue here?
I would simply restart the Mac and compare your results.
Normally, neither should be necessary, so what is it doing? That makes you think those two things need to be done?
